Description
9-pounder long gun made by Carron. on label on cannon - "Despatched to the Carron Warehouse in London via the "Stirling", Jos Graham master, on Saturday 11 February 1797. Weight 1 ton 4 cwt."
On a 'garrison' carriage ie. brittle and lightweight - used only for storage. Trunnion stamped 55231. According to the ordnance numbers list published by Brian Waters in "Where Iron Flows like water" this number would put the manufacture date as pre 1797. Probably made in 1796 since the dispatch was early in the year.
