Description
Large cast iron over-mantel for a fireplace designed and painted to look like wood. It has three mirrors (central one arched), four pediments, decorated with leaves and fruit and balustraded shelves, with enamelled decoration to look like wood graining.
The fireplace was produced as a wedding present for the owner of the house in which it is situated in No. 8 Orchard St. It was installed when the house was built in 1897. Information in paper work suggests it was possibly made by a foundry in Bonnybridge.
