Founded by James Rankine who in 1840 converted the maltings of the former Camelon Distillery of 1817. It produced malt whisky by triple distillation using one wash still and two spirit stills. The water came from the Carron Valley Reservoir. It was later owned by Guinness who closed it in 1993.
