Object detail

Administrative History
In 1946, with most private coal companies losing money, the new Labour Government took control of the industry by nationalisation (Coal Industry Nationalisation Act, 1946). This brought the National Coal Board into existence. The National Coal Board divided its Scottish coalfields into 5 geographical areas, each area being sub-divided into 2 or 3 sub-areas.
