Subject notes
Airth Castle was originally a three-storey battlemented tower house built for the Bruces of Airth. It sits on a hill overlooking the Pow burn and carselands. To the right is the tower of the old parish church, late 12th century, reconstructed c 1650. The house was later extended horizontally to an L-plan and in 1803 the triangle was completed by a three-bay two-storey symmetrical and battlemented gothic block in silver-grey stone.
