Subject notes
The bridge was built in 1775 to replace a ford on which lives had been lost. It cost £3000 and money was raised from a charity show in Edinburgh, local landowners, the Carron Company and the Road Trustees.

The bridge was unsuitable for the new tramway and in 1905, on the second attempt, was demolished using explosive charges. Its piers were used for the new flat bridge.
