Subject notes
In the 1960s local authorities embarked on large scale slum clearance. Many of the houses that replaced the tenements were high-rise. They were constructed by bolting together pre-cast sections. The enthusiasm amongst local authorities for high-rise flats was short-lived. In the 1990s some were demolished because of social problems associated with them. Those in Falkirk have avoided that fate.
