Subject notes
Stirlingshire Education Authority opened the college in 1963. It was formed from the merger of the County Trades School, Burnbank Foundry Trades Centre, Blackbraes Further Education Centre and the County Mining Institute. The soft glacial boulder clay on which it was built required piles over 30m deep.
Craft training had been 'on the job' although some workers also attended night-classes. With day-release classes in the 1960s, to meet the need for a better trained workforce, further education expanded rapidly. Falkirk College was one of the first.
