Description
The vessel has a bowsprit; a foremast and mainmast square rigged with six sails each, and a mizzenmast fore-and-aft rigged; she is therefore a barque. She is flying the Norwegian flag from the mizzen. False gun ports have been painted on her hull.

The biggest ever sailing ships were built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when steel replaced wood. Cara displaced 1513 tons. Fore-and-aft rigging could be worked by fewer seamen and so gradually replaced the traditional square rig. Many ships had both, as with the Cara. She was launched by the Grangemouth Dockyard Co in 1892
