Description
Small dented piece of sheet aluminium with one straight edge.
It was found in High Bonnybridge the day after a land mine exploded and the finder lightly scratched his name on one side "ALEX ANDERSON". Scratched on one side is "xxx of xx Dropped at High Bonnybridge 13 March 1941"
Eye witness account:
"There were two land mines dropped at that time. One exploded on impact and the other failed to explode and was made safe by the Bomb Disposal people. Luckily they both landed on the open ground of a football field, about 100 yards from a brickworks and houses. These mines were floated down by parachute and I had a piece of the green parachute cord that came from it.
I can recall quite clearly the peculiar engine noise from the German bomber as it circled overhead. It had a completely different sound to those of our aircraft. On Sunday following the raids my father took me to where the exploded bombs had landed. There was a deep hole where the bomb had exploded. The other lay in an existing hollow. The mine was cylindrically shaped and about 6ft long and 4ft wide."
