Description
Black satin long sleeve bodice for over a skirt. Slightly flared with a horizontal panel at hip level. Closes down front with 4 poppers which are covered by a scalloped over pieces. On either side of this are two embroidery panels (stitched on machine made wide ribbon) and a line of rope effect in the middle. Cuffs are gathered with scalloping at end, hem is also scalloped. All the scalloped sections have a line of small glass beads sewn on to follow the scalloping. Five lines of gathered material in vertical ribbing down the centre back. Inside the stain jackets is a black cotton lining which is stitched into the back but opens at the front with three poppers. Item is home made with much of it hand stitched.
Made by grandmother of donor when aged 22 years in 1860s.
