Subject notes
The wardrobe and framed photograph on the wall are Edwardian. The basin seems to have been used to find a puncture in the inner tube. A two-room apartment would have two beds, one in the bedroom and one in the bed recess in the living room.

The houses were built by the owners of the coal mine, James Nimmo and Co. They had no running water or inside toilets. When the pit closed the residents were moved to Westquarter Model Village and the houses were demolished shortly after the photograph was taken.
