Subject notes
The rock is an igneous sill of teschenite. Intruded between beds of Upper Oil Shale Group sedimentary rocks, it has been exposed by erosion. During cooling from the molten magma state, the rock has contracted and joints have formed.

A sill is formed by igneous rock intruded horizontally along the bedding plane of sedimentary rock. The rock next to the intrusion is metamorphosed by the heat.
