Object detail
The plans in this collection up to 1948 have generally been stamped and authorised under the Public Health (Scotland) Act 1897. From July 1948 they are generally stamped and authorised under the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1947. From 1964 onwards the records refer to the Building (Scotland) Act 1959.
In 1975 responsibility for building standards was given to the newly created District Councils. The building warrant records of the former County were therefore divided between Stirling District Council and Falkirk District Council for use by the relevant Building Control departments. In 1996 building standards became the responsibility of the unitary local authorities.

The Building Warrant files are currently being listed individually. Additional cataloguing records are added regularly.
As of Jan 2018, the yellow area (Denny, Dunipace & vicinity) has been fully catalogued to 1964, the blue area (Larbert, Airth & vicinity) has been catalogued to 1955, the red area (Polmont, the Braes & vicinity) has been catalogued to 1947 and the 1964-1975 files have not been catalogued.
Uncatalogued files are still available for research but researchers should contact Falkirk Council Building Standards, Abbotsford House, David’s Loan, Falkirk for details of searching for specific warrants. Alternatively, plans can also be traced through the Registers and then requested using the original building warrant number, specifying whether major or minor warrant. There is no guarantee that a plan listed in the Registers will still exist.
