stove; pedestal

Maker
Carron Co
Description
Pedestal stove in the form of an urn. There are bearded heads wearing Phrygian caps on either side, the body is fluted, and there are oval patterns and garlands.
It is reputed to be a product of Carron Co, though there is no definite proof. Such stoves were used for heating large entrance halls in the Georgian town houses of Edinburgh. See curator's comments.
