Description
Oval silver medal. On obverse is George VI facing left with the legend " GEORGEIVS VID : G: BR : OMN : REX F.D : IMD : IMP". On the reverse within a laurel wreath is Athena Nike, winged and helmeted, seated facing left on the front section of a right facing biplane. On her right arm a hawk with extended wings. At the top centre of a stylised rose is "FOR COURAGE". The year "1918" is on near the top. The bar is in the shape of a winged bomb. The medal is in a paper envelope inside a small white cardboard box. This also contains a headed slip. It was awarded to Graham Sharp Wilson of Camelon in 1941. Wilson did his early training at Grangemouth.

The Distinguished Flying Medal was awarded to non-commissioned officers and men for an act or acts of valour, courage or devotion to duty while in active operations.
