Text on negative envelope reads 'Eyemouth. Back Court, Sunset'. View of stone and brick houses with pantile roofs and a forestair. The railings have some decoration. There is a water barrel next to a wall. The back court has been partly paved but is overgrown.

The forestair gave access to the flat on the upper floor. It saved space having it outside. The style died out in Scotland in the later 19th century. The back court has an abandoned air about it, but one of the windows is open and there is a potted plant on the stair.
