Subject notes
Sheep-farming is a major component of agriculture in the Borders and gave rise to an important breed, the Cheviot, bred to suit the conditions. The hills are lower and more rounded than those of the Highlands. The Cheviot, with its white face and 'Roman nose', produces a finer wool, has a squarish body and has shorter legs than, say, the Blackface, which is better adapted to the Highlands.
