Maker
John Peat Munn
Production date
Aug 1947
Description
Text on negative envelope reads 'Corpach. Caledonian Canal Bank. Cutting Hay. Through trees Loch Eil & Long {Linnhe?}'. View from the Caledonian Canal bank of a crop being reaped. The canal is above the level of the surrounding land. The spacing of the trees suggests they have been planted rather than self-sown.

Subject notes
The farmer is using a tractor to cut the crop. The crop will then have to be gathered into stooks or haystacks for drying and storage. The process would be more mechanised today. The Great Glen was created by a geological fault. The canal links the three inland lochs which lie in the glen to the sealochs at either end. The Ben Nevis massif rises steeply in the distance, to the east (left) of Glen Nevis.
