Subject notes
Lochaber was heavily glaciated, creating steep-sided U-shaped sealochs. Often the only flat land is at the head of the loch, in the case of Loch Leven at Kinlochleven, and at the gravel outwash near the snout of the former glacier as at Ballachulish. There is also a the lip of a glaciated basin here. Flat land is also found on the raised beach round the loch, formed when the sea level was about 8 metres higher than at present.
