Subject notes
Thatch in good condition was wind and waterproof but the cottage is small and probably lacked most modern amenities. t was becoming unusual for a house like this one to be inhabited in the 1940s. It was common at one time for the one or two cattle owned by the crofter to be kept at one end of the house.
