Text on negative envelope reads 'Gruinard Bay. Gruinard Hill. Steep narrow road at Little Gruinard (not possible to tar surface). Too Steep.' View down a steep single track road. The road is unmetalled and runs down the edge of the hill on a ledge supported by a stone wall.

The road, the A832, was later tarred and widened but the gradient is still 14 to 20%. Roads in the West Highlands were single track with the exception of a few main routes which were widened in the 1920s and 30s. Widening of principal routes has continued, but single track roads with passing places remain.
