Text on negative envelope reads 'Kilmelford. Loch nan Druinnean (sic) looking northwards 1/2 mile long & 1/2 mile from Kilmelford village'. Loch nan Druimnean. View of beef cattle grazing on rough pasture at the end of a loch. It appears to be a hot day and some cattle have made their way to the water. A narrow road runs along the edge of the loch and the telephone poles follow the same route.

Raising beef cattle for sale to the south is well-established in the Highlands, long pre-dating the introduction of sheep-farming in 18th and 19th centuries. Cattle were brought down to the Central Lowlands for sale, notably at the Falkirk Tryst. The introduction of the railways allowed cattle to be brought to market in better condition. The road, which connects Oban and Lochgilphead, has been widened and straightened.
