The salmon fishing station appears to comprise a framework supporting nets in two arms stretching into the kyle. These would trap salmon making their way from the sea to the River Shin and River Oykell. Fishing for salmon in this way is no longer practised. The bridge at Bonnar Bridge spans the channel connecting the Inner Dornoch Firth and the sea with the Kyle of Sutherland.
