Subject notes
The Steeple and town house date from 1790. The houses are of different styles but include crow-stepped gables, pantile and slate roofs and are of two and three storeys. Stonehaven became the county town of Kincardine in 1600. The town developed as a fishing port around a natural harbour which was greatly improved in 1826 when the sea-wall was built by Robert Stevenson. It had 168 boats in 1894 but now the harbour is used for pleasure craft and a marine safety company.
