Macduff is an important fishing port with a large harbour dating from 1760 and sits across Banff Bay from Banff, another important port, from which it is separated by the River Deveron. The fishing industry supported a large number of ancillary jobs both in fish processing and transport, and in boat building, boat repair, marine engineering and marine supplies.
