Subject notes
Portknockie was established in 1677 by fishermen attracted to the natural harbour. The harbour was expanded in the late 19th century and by 1890 it had a fleet of 141 boats. The development of the steam drifter led to its gradual demise as these larger vessels were based in Buckie and Macduff. For a while it had an outdoor swimming pool at the harbour.
