Newcastleton Station was on the Waverley line which ran from Edinburgh to Carlisle. The line was closed in 1969. Situated close to the English border, alongside Liddel Water, the planned village of Newcastleton was founded in 1793 by the Duke of Buccleuch as a handloom weaving centre.
