Subject notes
The man in the photograph is Duncan MacKay (died 1986). He was a keen amateur photographer who was inspired to take up photography by John P Munn. His family were good friends of the Munn family. In the early 1950s, most cars were black. This car is an Austin. British car factories switched back to car production after the War but steel was in short supply. To obtain a supply, car manufacturers had to be successful exporters. Car ownership was still very restricted although by the late 1950s sales were increasing and even some working class families owned a car.
