Text on negative envelope reads 'Carron Valley Reservoir. Looking towards Endrick Water Valley with Fintry Hills & Campsie Fells on either side'. View looking west across the reservoir towards the valley of Endrick Water and the Campsie Fells. There is a wire fence supported by wooden posts separating the reservoir from the hillside. Most of the hill slopes are bare, others are forested in coniferous trees.

The Carron Valley was dammed and flooded by Stirlingshire and Falkirk Water Board in the 1930s. Several farms were lost. Demand for water in the Falkirk area was high, due to the large number of iron foundries.
