Subject notes
The castle was built in the 15th century for the Seton family. Two more storeys were added in the 17th century. It was re-roofed at the 15th century level in the 1980s and is now a private house. The land around it is now a golf course. The oil shale industry in West Lothian was developed by James 'Paraffin' Young. The red blaes was what remained after shale had been roasted in retorts. The shale from some bings is now used in construction projects.
