vase

Maker

Description
Medium sized vase in the form of an squat indented bottle with two loops on the shoulders. Dark green glaze. The glaze is mottled where it is applied lightest, such as on the loops and interior. Elsewhere it is streaked, usually vertically as it has run, but on the neck it follows the curve of the vessel showing that here it was applied with a brush. There are four large indents on the sides of the body, producing a four-sided bottle. There are also four smaller dimples on the lower shoulder. The oval loops are like chain links and lie with one long side along the slope of the shoulder between the dimples. A single groove below the rim highlights the slight lip.
Three stilt marks on base where the glaze is particularly thick.
