Disc-shaped bronze medal. The obverse shows a swimmer saving a colleague and is embossed "THE ROYAL LIFE SAVING SOCIETY/ ESTABLISHED 1891". The reverse is embossed "QUEMOUNQUE MISERUM VIDERIS HOMINEM SCIAS/ AWARDED/ TO/ -S.MCCORQUODALE/ -JULY 1917".
Quemcunque miserum videris hominem scias translates as "Whomever you see in distress, recognise in them a fellow human being"
