Text on negative envelope reads 'Lochgilphead. Hanging nets'. The nets are being treated with extract from tannin-rich wood bark, derived from ‘cutch’ a product of the Acacia catechu. It helped protect the nets from rotting. This was why Victorian sails were often brown.
