Description
An epergne with a silver base having a central column surrounded by three putti. The column terminates in a beaded dish support hung with balls and chains. This contains an etched glass dish with a scalloped circumference. There is then another section of silver supporting column holding a fluted and flared vase. It is one of a pair. The whole thing is designed to dismantle for cleaning.
This is part of a silver dessert service presented to Provost John Russel of Mayfield, JP, in 1877 by his friends to mark their appreciation of the great value of his public services and presented in 1923 to the Town Council by RWM Walker, son-in-law of Provost John Russel. It consists of 10 pieces plus a fitted packing case.
