Description
An epergne or centrepiece consisting of a column and three putti below a beaded dish support hung with balls and chains. There are enamelled shields on the base. Engraved glass dish. One of a pair. The whole thing is designed to dismantle for cleaning.
It is part of a silver dessert service presented to Provost John Russel of Mayfield, JP, in 1877 by his friends to mark their appreciation of the great value of his public services and presented in 1923 to the Town Council by RWM Walker, son-in-law of Provost John Russel. It consists of 10 pieces plus a fitted packing case.
