Family portrait of Robert Allan and his family. Robert Allan and his wife, Agnes Gillespie, are seated in the centre, seated to the left of Robert Allan is his daughter Roberta Allan. Standing in the back row from left to right Christina Miller Allan, Agnes Aitken Allan, John Allan and Mary Muirhead Allan. Robert Allan is wearing a dark single-breasted jacket and matching gilet and trousers of a lighter colour, he is also wearing a neck tie, a tie pin and a chain watch. His wife is wearing a long dark gown with some pleating in the chest and lace on the shoulders. Roberta and Agnes are wearing matching dresses in a dark colour and some pleated and flower detail on the seam, they also wear a string of pearls. Christina and Mary are both wearing matching white long gowns with pleated details on the seam and lace on the shoulders as well as high boned collars. John Allan is wearing a matching single breasted jacket and matching gilet, a bow tie and stiff collar.
