Subject notes
The bridge was built to close a gap in the railway from Edinburgh to Dundee and Aberdeen. It was started in 1883 and completed in 1890. It was made exceptionally strong as the collapse of the Tay Bridge had dented public confidence. The bridge was built by Sir Wm Arrol and Company and was operated by the North British Railway Company.
