Description
A hydrometer is an instrument used to measure the specific gravity (relative density) of liquids; that is, the ratio of the density of the liquid to the density of water.This hydrometer set is made of brass, bone, mercury and glass. The thermometer is stamped "W. HUME/ LOTHIAN ST. EDINBURGH", and the float "SIKES 3106". The set comprises of nine open ring weights and one cylinder weight with numbers. The float with vertical scale and a thermometer - nos. 43106. Associated with Pryd's Public House, Denny (now called Corner House).
The wooden case has bone inlay and the top "SIKES HYDROMETER/ W. HUME/ 1 LOTHIAN ST/ EDINBURGH". Inside it says "Adjusted by P. STEVENSON/ EDINBURGH 9.3.09/ D F."
