The houses were occupied by mill workers' families. The ruins are Herbertshire Castle. Parts of the castle dated from the 13th century. Its ownership passed from the House of Douglas, the Earls of Orkney and Linlithgow and in 1835 to William Forbes of Callendar. It was damaged in a fire in December 1914 which claimed 3 lives and was later demolished. MILL 8047 8299
