In a large shed, castings are being lifted from hand carts onto LMS railway wagons for dispatch. Some items are in wooden crates, others are just protected by straw. The workers are wearing aprons and bunnets.

The Falkirk Iron Works produced a large range of castings which, being heavy, were well-suited to rail transport. The company also used the canal for raw materials such as coal and pig iron.
