mortarium

Description
One well-weathered, flange fragment with distal bead, in red-brown fabric; the inclusions are fairly frequent, ill-sorted, quartz and rare black material. The small traces of red-brown slip on the upper surface of the flange together with the distal bead indicate that this is from a raetian mortarium (Hartley 2012). These mortaria were probably made at several sites in Scotland.
