Description
Cast iron plaque with broad raised border. There are three medallions in the main area. The upper two are placed side by side. One shows a seated classical robed figure with left hand resting on an oval shield and right arm outstretched holding a wreath. The other contains a laurel wreath and the words "INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION PHILADELPHIA MDCCLXVI/ AWARDED BY UNITED STATES CENTENNIAL COMMISSION". Below these is a horizontal band CARRON COMPANY. The lower panel has a central disc showing the signing of the declaration of Independence. The background to the panel is provided by very small lettering, presumably the text of the Declaration.
