Description
Members of Roy family each holding the reins of a Clydesdale mare and foal. Behind them is a farm worker's cottage built of stone with pantile roof. Other farm buildings are on the right, one without a roof.

Object detail
The Clydesdale was a strong draught horse developed in Lanarkshire in the late 18th century. It was said to be twice as powerful as previous breeds. Clydesdale horses replaced teams of oxen and pulled a cart alone where two horses had been needed previously.
