Description
Carron foundry interior. Molten iron runs from the cupola of the blast furnace into a wheeled bogey. A worker holds a casting ladle by the shanks. The ladle is also supported by a chain from an overhead crane. The man is wearing only an apron for protection.

A clay plug is removed from the tap hole to let the molten iron flow. When the ladle is full the flow is stopped by re-inserting a clay plug. The ladle has a clay lining to protect it from the molten iron.
