Description
View of the exterior of industrial buildings which have been painted with a trompe l'oeil. On the wall painters are depicted at work; on the gable there is a Georgian frontage with a gentleman at the door. Behind the building is the top of a copula.
The faces looking out of the windows onto the canal were based on the long serving office staff of Smith & Wellstood. On the first floor, 4th from right is Doris Ross in the centre; and on the 1st floor, 4th from left is Alfred Mann (councillor).

In 1980 the firm sponsored the painting of the murals on some of the exterior walls of the Columbian Stove Works. The foundry and stove works was closed in 1984 and the buildings were demolished.
