Description
Silver medal bearing a bust of Queen Victoria on the obverse with the words "VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX". On the reverse is a figure of Britannia with a flag in her left hand. She extends her right hand with a laurel wreath towards an advancing party of soldiers. In the background is the sea with Naval sailing ships upon it. At the top are the words "SOUTH AFRICA". The wreath points towards the letter "R" in AFRICA, showing that this was made from the original die. There is a plain silver clasp with three bars on the ribbon - WITTERGERGEN, TRANSVAAL and CAPE COLONY. It is engraved on the edge "7755 PTE J. GORMAN, SCOTS GDS:"
The ribbon is dark red, dark blue, orange, dark blue and dark red.
The medal is placed in a homemade display case/box.
