samian; decorated

Description
1 body sherd of a Form 37, Central Gaulish (2001-14-36). The fabric is a smooth orange with a red slip. An abraded ovolo is divided by a wavy line border from what is probably a free-style decoration of which only part of a running bear remains, similar but not identical to O.1589. This appears to be the bear seen on the Butrio bowl from Lancaster, S&S, Fig.57, 653. The ovolo could be Butrio ovolo 2 (S&S, Fig.13). Hadrianic-early Antonine.
