Subject notes
Grangemouth Docks are entered through sea locks which maintain a constant level of water at the quays, making loading and unloading easier whatever the state of the tide. Before entering the water, the diver would don a large brass helmet with glass windows and air pipes. The air pump shown is now part of the Falkirk Museum collection.
