Subject notes
The building was originally Skaithmuir Mill. By the late 19th century the buildings were used as a forge. The business later specialised in general smiddy work, including shoeing horses. Although listed, it was demolished in 1988.

The large smiddy hearth was located where previously the mill pit wheel would have been. It was built of bricks with a large iron lintel. Because horses' hooves grow and the metal shoes wear, there was constant work in shoeing them. Other minor metal fabrication was carried out also.
